Straight Shooter

The weather made for a pleasant ride today, but there really wasn't a whole lot to see. We had to stay sharp as there were lots of turns on the cue sheet but the roads were all straight and flat with water in the ditches and loose dogs running out from rundown dwellings & junkyards. Okay, perhaps I exaggerate a bit on the last two points. Lots of logging trucks on the roads this morning and the smell of pulp mills in the air. At least we left the roadside clear-cutting behind us. Our only "terrain features" seemed to be bridges; there are lots of bodies of water in this part of the country. My GPS tells me that we spent most of the day below sea level. The Sabine River separates Texas and Louisiana. We added some new critters to our road kill tallies - turtle, possum and beaver. Margarita party for crossing a state line, followed by a fabulous dinner of baked salmon, mashed potatoes, asparagus + berries & cream for dessert - yum!

Stats today: 77 miles from Silsbee TX to Lake Charles LA. Dog chases - about 5. Dog bites - 0.
