Yesterday was a rest day in Kerrville TX and was the last day of the first half of our trip. Four of us rented a car and drove to San Antonio for the day. We had a wonderful day - we went right downtown to see the River Walk, take a boat tour, visit the Alamo and, of course, sample some ice cream.
Back to business today as we set out on the second half of our tour. And what a great start! We wound our way on mostly quiet country roads west and north of San Antonio. The traffic was minimal and the pavement was OK. We didn't tackle any big hills like the previous days in Hill Country, but we still climbed 3700 feet over the course of 64 miles from Kerrville TX to Blanco TX. We started the day at about 8C & overcast and saw over 30C in bright sunshine before the end of the ride. In addition to the quiet country roads, rolling hills and lots of ranches, we found a German festival in Comfort TX, an amazing cheeseburger and old-fashioned milkshake in Waring TX and an armadillo shop in Sisterdale TX. BTW - that's a picture of an armadillo table lamp below. Hopefully our days of riding all day without seeing any civilization are behind us. Our group is staying in 2 motels tonight - I have been assigned to the "outcast motel". It's OK, though. And - I see that I have won my annual March Madness bet yet again!

Congratulations, you hit the highlights of San Antonio - neat town eh?
ReplyDeleteThe weather sounds pretty ideal. You're missing light snow and -3C in Calgary - well done!
Sounds like a great day! Congrats on the March Madness bet. It's 14c and partly cloudy in TO - at least that's more like Spring!! Enjoy!!
