We stayed in a lovely brand-new Best Western last night. Great rooms and a wonderful sleep. We had an early start to the day since we had a lot of miles to cover. Stats for the day - 89 miles, 2400 feet of climbing (on what was essentially a flat day). We pretty quickly moved from the lush agriculture of the Imperial Valley into the desert and some great sand dunes and then eventually back into agricultural land around our destination city of Blythe CA. The highlight of the day for me was the diversity of landscapes that we travelled through. The challenges were the headwinds (which we were assured were mild compared to what they have been on other trips) and stretches of rough roads and one stretch with no shoulder & lots of big truck traffic. We were really away from civilization all day so had lunch prepared by our guides at a road-side pullout. The wonderful desert weather is with us now. Bright sunshine and probably close to 30C today; at least we had the wind to cool us off!
Rest day tomorrow!!

Another rest day? Are you girls taking this seriously enough
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour Sue! I love the look of those smooth dunes - kind of like the smooth snow pillows that cover rocks in a rough water course, or at Elephant Rocks in winter. What makes those fairly isolated curving lines on the dunes?
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks bleak and forlorn... but bet you are enjoying the warmer temps!!
