Day 1 is in the books
It was so good to finally get underway. So good, in fact, that I really enjoyed a ride that unto itself was not spectacular. We started out with a 3 mile ride to Dog Beach where we dipped our rear wheels into the Pacific Ocean. The rain held off for about half of that ride, but we were wet by the time we got to the beach. The next ten miles were on a combination of bike paths and on-street bike lanes. The bike lanes were not my favourite. The pavement was less than ideal at times, there was a lot of debris from last night's storm and there were a lot of on- and off- ramps that could be challenging to negotiate one's way safely across. It all worked out OK though and we eventually found our way out of the city and suburbs. The rain came and went throughout the day and the temperature was chilly - about 45-50 F which I'm guessing is about 10C. It was a short day - just under 40 miles in total - but we had over 3200 feet of climbing. Really a bit of a rude re-introduction to outdoor cycling! But I felt great; let's hope the feeling stays. Tonight we're in Alpine CA. And now - somebody else makes dinner!

Sounds like you are off to a good start, Sue. Good luck with the remaining 4,960 miles!
